Premier Zhu Rongji Meets Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew (2000/11/25)

Premier Zhu Rongji of the State Council met with Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew on Nov. 25, 2000, during which they held cordial and friendly talks.

Zhu expressed his satisfaction with the rapid progress of the Sino-Singaporean relations during the past 10 years since the two countries forged diplomatic ties. He also thanked Lee for the protracted efforts he made to promote the friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between China and Singapore. He also made a briefing on the good economic situation China has been enjoying since the beginning of this year, upon Lee’s request.

On the question of Taiwan, Lee said that the Taiwan authorities should come back to the consensus on one- China reached by both sides of the Taiwan Straits in 1992, while Zhu expounded the principled stance of China on the question of Taiwan.

On the morning of the same day, Zhu listened to the briefing of officials of Singaporean Stock Market on the Market.

On the afternoon, Zhu also met and had pictures taken with the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, representatives of Chinese institutes companies and Chinese students studying in Singapore.
