President Jiang Zemin Meets Lao National Assembly President Samane Vignaket

Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with Lao National Assembly President Samane Vignaket in the Presidential Palace on the morning, Nov.12, 2000.

Jiang said he is very pleased to get acquainted with President Samane, noting that it was the first time he met with Lao top legislator, an old friend of the Chinese people who has made great contributions to the development of the Sino-Lao friendship. Samane said Jiang's visit to Laos came right before the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, bringing with him profound friendly feelings from the Chinese people to the Lao people. In recent years, he added, the relations between Laos and China have developed in all fields, noting that contacts between the two legislatures have achieved further progress. 

Samane briefed Jiang on the Lao National Assembly. He expressed that he is willing to make greater efforts for furthering the relations between the two Legislatures.

Jiang said that China and Laos are close neighbors and the two peoples have forged over the years a profound friendship. In recent years, with concerted efforts of the two sides the friendly bilateral ties have developed in an all round way and the exchanges and cooperation in all fields have been deepened. We are glad to see that the Chinese National Assembly and the Lao National Assembly have conducted exchanges at various levels with enhanced mutual understanding and friendship. Jiang expressed satisfaction with the relations between the two Parliaments.

Jiang also informed Samane on China's Legislature and welcomed Samane to visit China again at his convenience.
