According to the survey results and practices since 1986, Thanh Hoa marine
resources were assessed as follows:
The area of Thanh Hoa's sea territories is 17,000 sq km with a reserve of
between 100,000 and 120,000 tones of seafood, including Day fish, shrimp,
cuttlefish, shellfish and crab.
Great potential in brackish and seawater aquaculture.
+A tidal flat of over 8000 ha (excluding tidal flats in Nga Son and Hau Loc
districts….) is a big resource in aquaculturing brackish and saltwater
creatures such as prawn, tiger prawn, crab and edible seaweed…
+The sea water area is about over 5000 ha, mainly in Me and Bien Son
islands, suitable for feeding Song fish, Cam fish, pearl oyster, lobster on
rafts. The province has great potential in sea water aquaculture.
+Thanh Hoa has a thousands ha coastal area of sea water which is used to
raise 2 pieces bivalve mollusc such as arca…
Potential in salt production
Thanh Hoa sea water has a high salt content of between 2.5 and 2.8% from
Octobers to Junes the following years, which reaches the highest of between 3.2
and 3.3% in January. Salt fields are located in Hau Loc (Hai Loc and Hoa Loc
communes), Quang Xuong (Quang Trach and Quang Chinh communes), Tinh Gia (Hai
Chau, Hai Binh, Hai Thuong and Hai Ha communes). The total area is 344 ha.
Productivity can reach over 30,000 tones.
