Dong Nai is located in the centre of the Southern economic maint
point (SEMP), nearby provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan,
Ba Ria - Vung Tau and HCM city. It has transport systems of water & land
and railway connecting to other localities in Viet Nam. Its location is very
important for the development of the Southern economic main point and
convenient for linking to the South East and Tay Nguyen.
Locating in the SEMP, Dong Nai has managed to make full use of its
comparative advantages in the DOI MOI process and gained remarkable
achievements, especially in the period from 1995 up to now.
In accordance with the results of the aggregate population check of 1 April
1999, there have been 1,989,541 people (993,039 men and 996,502 women) living
in Dong Nai.
In 1990, Dong Nai had 838 thousand people at working ages and this number
is estimated to increase by 1,703 thousand people in the year 2000. Its
industry and service sectors have grown rapidly, thus attracting many new
labours: 12 thousand in 1990 and 65 thousand estimated further in 2000.
From the figure gained in the population check of 1999, Dong Nai had
607,128 urban habitants (30.5%), taking the higher level than the average of
Viet Nam which is only 23.5%. Urban habitants have been increased by 2.78%

Physical lives of people here have been remarkably improved: GDP per capita
has increased from 755 thousand VND in 1990 to 3.7 million VND in 1995, and 6.7
million in 2000.
Housing conditions have also been much upgrade with 80% of solid,
semi-solid and durable wooden frame houses, equivalent to the average level of
the South East and is better than that of Viet Nam (in VN there are up to 25%
of families living in raw houses). Nearly 50% of families in Dong Nai are now
living with an average area of more than 10m2 per capita (as much as that of Ha
Noi or HCM city), and 80% are able to use electricticy as targeted.
There are 10 groups of land in Dong Nai:
Grey land is accounting for more than 40.05% of natural land and favorable
for agricultural cultivation and construction.
Black land is accosting for more than 22.44% of natural land and suitable
for yearly cultivated trees.
Grey land is accouting for more than 19.27% of natural land and suitable
for long-term industrial trees.
Besides, there are other groups such as alluvium (4.76%) convenient for
rice and fruits on earth.
Gley land (4.56%) is mainly used for planting rice and others.
The use of land here has had changes over the past years, but Dong Nai is still
the province of largest scale of agricultural land in the South East.

Dong Nai develops sea products mainly basing on a big system of lakes,
rivers and canals including Tri An lake (323 km2) and more than 60 rivers and
canals which are very favourable for growing sea food such as shrimps, fish,
etc.
Tri An lake
Dong Nai has a rich source of surface water especially Dong Nai lake. It
supplies water for agriculture, industry as well as livings in the city. There
are 23 lakes of which Tri An is the biggest one with the capacity of nearly 2.8
billion m3 of water. The surface water is the most important source in
supplying water for both Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and HCM city.
The potential of underground water here is large as well with 5 water
layers of 45- 140 m. Static capacity is more than 1,940,000 m3/day and active
capacity more than 3,000,000 m3/ day, which can help supplement water to meet
demand of production, construction and living of small and medium size.

Dong Nai is a place located a lot of historic and cultural spots and many
other potential torist locations such as: Tran Bien Temples, Nguyen Huu Canh
Temple, Buu Long Tourism Places, Dong Nai Riverside, Nam Cat Tien National
Garden, Tan Trieu Polemo Village, mai Waterfall - warm water lake, O - Dong Nai

Mineral Resources are very abundant of many types: Precious metals (Gold),
Color metals (Boxite), Precious stones (safya, ziricon, pyrop, opan), Ceramic
and Porcelain materials (Kaolin, Color Powder Clay), Construction Materials,
Cement Additive, Peat, Mineral and Hot Water...So far, It is exlpored more than
200 mines and minenal locations, of which notably are minerals for construction
such as: Stones, located in Bien Hoa, Thong Nhat, xuan Loc, Long Thanh... It is
also excavated 38 mines with total capacity level B and C1 are over 62 m cubic
meters, ythe estimated capacity up to more than 300 cubic meters; Sand for
construction are located in the bottom of Dong Nai and Nha Be River, Dong Tranh
Mu Rua Knoll and other small rivers. Total capacity C1 over 29 cubic meters,
estimated more than 38 cubic meters. Brick and Tile Clay is very abundant,
located in almost localities in the province. It was also exposed 27 mines and
mineral locations, total capacity level 1 up to nearly 9 m cubic
meters, estimated more than 85 cubic meters; Cement Additive and
Puz¬lan: 23 mines with total capacity A+B+C1 more than 9 cubic meters,
estimated more than 400 tons. Laterit with 12 discovered mines and mineral
places, total capacity B+C1 more than 2 m ton, estimated more than 23 m
tons.
Dong Nai Forest are characterized by wet tropical moon soon forest in South
East Vietnam ecological system, with abundant, precious animals and plant
resource and the most notable is South Cat Tien Forest.

Dong Nai has big progress of investment in upgrading transport system,
specially in roads. National highway system with total 244.5 km long has been
improving and widening up to delta highway level 1 and 2 standard (National
Highway No 5 and 6) or up to third grade like National Highway No 20 to Da Lat,
on that way there was 75 kilometers in the province territory had been spreaded
on the surface). Roads system in the province lengthens 3.339 kilometers, of
which nearly 700 kilometers is tar surface roads. Moreover, roads system under
commune and ward management, roads in farms, industrial parks make a continuous
system to localities, 100 percent communes and wards have roads for cars to its
center.
Under scheme in the near future, high speed ways system to Ba Ria Vung Tau
and Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway system, upgraded provincial
roads No 726 and connecting national highway No 20 and No 1 with national
highway No 51 ... will create a complete system, serving for socio economic
development demand locally and regionally.
Dong Nai Port system include:
Long Binh Tan Port: On Dong Nai river far from national highway No on the
right from HCMC to Ha Noi 800 kilometers; Capacity 460000 tons per years with
2000 GRT ship, a 60 meters long wharf has been finished and put into operation;
a barge port for 5000 DWT after dredging in the future. Major office will be

Go Dau A Port: On the Thi Vai river, 2 kilometers far from national highway
No 51 on the right from Bien Hoa to Vung Tau. At present, the biggest ship size
can access is 2.000 GRT; but in the future hope for 10.000 DWT one.

Go Dau A Port: On the Thi Vai river, far from 2.5 kilometers on the
right of the road No 51 from Bien Hoa to Vung Tau. It is put operation and will
be upgraded to the deigned capacity of 10 m tons per year, 2 sides are capable
of receiving 15.000 DWT ship. The Office is located at Phuoc Thai commune, Long

The main services are navigation agent, loading, storage, transporting and
forwarding. Capacity of goods are transported throught the port amounted to
700.000 tons per year. it is estimated the capacity will be up to 25 to 30 m

establishing.

Railway station system in the province spreads 87.5 kilometers long with 12
station: Gia Huynh, Trang Tao, Gia Ray, Bao Chanh, Xuan Loc, An Loc, Dau Giay,
Bau Ca, Trang Bom, Long Lac, Ho Nai vµ Bien Hoa . This line is the important
transport blood vessel linking Dong Nai with The North and HCMC.
During 5 past years, the urban water supply industry has investing in the
construction and improvement, upgrading water supply capacity from 39.500 cubic
meter per day in 1993 up to 73.400 cubic meter per day in 1998, constructing
Long Binh water supply factory of the first phase with capacity of 15.000
cubic meter per day, Gia Ray water supply factory of 2400 cubic meter per day,
Hoa An pumping station with capacity of 6000 cubic meter per day. Increasing
Long Khanh water supply factory with capacity up to 5000 cubic meter per
day and preparing to build Long Binh water supply factory of the first phase
with capacity of 15.000 cubic meter per day, Thien Tan with capacity of
100.000 cubic meter per day, Nhon Trach water supply factory with
capacity of 200.000 cubic meter per day, serving for production and people
life.
Supplying resouce: Electricity distribution network of Dong Nai receives
electricity from immediate transformer station of 110/15 KV, 60/15 KV,...and
other small capacity diesel station for make ready for the main station.

Medical network in the province consists of 5 general hospitals at
provincal and regional levels, 3 specialized hospitals and 6 others at district
level. Other medical units include 11 regional offices, 1 centre of preventive
medicine, 1 centre of medicine for the IZ, 163 medical stations at commune,
ward and town levels and 12 diagnostic units. There is a total number of 3,260
hospital beds. Besides, there are also 3 other hospitals under the Central

Dong Nai Highschool
Dong Nai has obtained a rapid growth of education and culture, contributing
to strengthen intellectual level of people as well as training of human
resource over the past 10 years. The number of pupils has reached an average
increase by 5.7% per year (7.2% from 1991-1995 and 4.2% from 1996-2000) and is
higher than that of Viet Nam.
In 2000, there are 50,165 of children being looked after at child care
centres, an increase of 23,889 in comparision with 1996 and nearly 4,000
annually.
Common Education: the number of pupils has increased from 2,339 per 10
thousand people in 1995 to 2,666 per 10 thousand people in 2000. The number of
graduated pupils always remains rising annually .
Continuation of Education and Illiterate elimination develop widely among
people with an annual rise of 12,622 learners (attending courses of
continuation of education) and 4,025 (participating in illiterate elimination
movement.)
Professional education and vacational training is booming in both private
and state sectors. In addition to training for technical workers, the province
